About this deal

Even the translator was apparently British, with an abundance of British slang peppered throughout the book. The author also doesn't shy away from presenting the atrocities of both sides(albeit the Soviet ones stick out more), but at the same time keeps both sides sharply human, which is something many war books fail to do.

It is very easy to read as it has no fancy author trying to show you his education, except for the constant use of German terms for people's positions and rank. This book stands as a memorial to the huge numbers on both sides who did not survive and is, some six decades later, the fulfilment of a responsibility the author feels to honor the memory of those who perished. Sedgwick’s use of the diction, rhetoric and devices of the fairytale transposes itself with remarkable ease to the contrasting courtly world of Russia and the raging discontent that powered the revolution. A poor condition book can still make a good reading copy but is generally not collectible unless the item is very scarce. The horror and confusion of fighting in the streets of Stalingrad are brought to life by his descriptions of the others in his unit; their differing manners and techniques for dealing with the squalor and death. The author was deployed in various theaters of wars so there are some interesting facts to witness to, no doubt. We give people around the world the opportunity to contribute to the circular economy, earn money and protect the planet, by trading their unwanted books and media. Christmas celebrations during the Second World War often had to be scaled down or adjusted as restrictions and shortages took their toll. We do still get accounts of outnumbered German units holding off massive Soviet attacks, but it's clear that these were always hard-fought and close-run affairs, with the result often decided by luck.

The diary went missing, and it was not until he was reunited with his daughter in America some forty years later that it came to light and became Blood Red Snow.He describes the horrendous treatment committed by Russian soldiers against their own Russian civilians who they falsely accused of harboring Germans. He briefly saw combat in Stalingrad, and was involved in the desperate attempts to avoid being trapped after the Soviet's broke the German lines west of the city.

During the German retreat from Russia, Gunter Koschorrek claims to have personally seen Russian villages formerly occupied by the Germans who's civilians were butchered by Soviet soldiers, and that the atrocities were being blamed on the Germans. And then there is the touching story of the Ukrainian kitchen helper Katya and her constant worry about the soldiers from Koschorrek's unit, who she had grown so fond of .
