About this deal

Critical Role began as a private Dungeons & Dragons game with Matthew Mercer as the Dungeon Master and creator of the Exandria setting. Each cast member created their own character to play in the campaign. When Geek & Sundry moved "the group's existing home game into its studio" as a weekly web series in 2015, the story of Vox Machina started in media res. [1] [2] Prior to the publication of Vox Machina: Origins, most information on the group's adventures pre-stream came from a short video summary. Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins is an adaptation of the group's game before the show. [1] Volume 1 [ edit ]

It's a graphic novel that tells the story of how this motley crew of six adventurers all got together in the first place. This story predates any of the podcasting campaigns that we've all known, so it's fun to see who was hanging out with whom, and why, before they all ended up adventuring together. There's a lot of fighting, meta humor, adherence to D&D rules within the confines of the story, and even character sheets at the end. The band of adventurers known as Vox Machina will save the world. Eventually. But even they have to start somewhere. Six would-be heroes on seemingly different jobs find their paths intertwined as they investigate shady business in the swamp town of Stilben. They’ll need to put their heads—and weapons—together to figure out what’s going on…and keep from being killed in the process. Vex then approaches The Wing with the same despondent face. Before she says anything. Grog and Scanlan immediately recognize her. Arnicor sees that she is desperate, and Vex says that her brother was taken and that they have the book, which could tell her where he is. Scanlan tries to make it known to Vex how much he dislikes her, but Thurista tells him to quiet down and asks Vex to explain, but she does not say anything. As Scanlan explains to Thurista and Arnicor, Vex does not trust anyone, let alone them, and that she is realizing that anyone who would volunteer to help her would want something in return; in contrast, Vex was hoping to live without ever owing anyone anything, with the exception of her brother. However, her brother has been kidnapped, and her desperation has now overridden her cynicism. Arnicor warns Vex not to go alone, and Thurista offers to bring her to the local church and talk to the prior. Vex stares at them for a moment, as if contemplating Thurista's offer, but turns around and walks away without a word.

Issue #5 released on February 19, 2020. Let the nightmare begin! Or rather, manifest. Keyleth, Pike, and Scanlan have journeyed to the Umbra Hills to find the skull of a nightmare. Grog's survival depends on their success (no pressure), but the cult that has supposedly been conjuring the magical beast is nowhere to be found! Unless, of course, the mysterious stranger in the local jail is right, and the nightmare cult members are right under Vox Machina's nose! Master Vouk: A collaborator with the Briarwoods in Whitestone, Vouk's forehead was branded and had his tongue ripped out by Vox Machina before fleeing, his status following this is unknown. In the very first session played by the group, which was supposed to be a one-shot for Liam O'Brien's birthday, Marisha Ray was present, but instead of playing, she helped the others with the game, as most had never played Dungeons & Dragons before. She created Keyleth and joined the party in a later session.

In the animated adaptation of Campaign One, Vox Machina first appeared in Emon, where they attempted to make ends meet as a group of mercenaries. They were flat broke and had been banned from every tavern in the city. As they contemplated their failures, Scanlan found a public notice from Sovereign Uriel Tal'Dorei offering a reward to any mercenary who could kill the unknown beast laying waste to the Shalesteps. Vox Machina appeared before the Tal'Dorei Council to take on the job. Although most of its members weren't convinced, General Krieg spoke in their favor, and the Sovereign agreed. All the members of the cast got the Vox Machina symbol tattooed (a combined V and M), but while Taliesin, Travis and Sam decided to place theirs inside a circle, the other cast members chose to do it with a square, causing the entire tattoo to look like the Gmail logo. [38]

Povestea nu contează, e doar un pretext pentru replici mai mult sau mai puțin haioase. Nu sunt sigur că vă veți distra mai tare dacă sunteți fani D&D, pentru că nu sunt prea multe referințe - și nici prea obscure. Though not necessarily a deliberate connotation, there's also some wordplay between "Vox Machina" and the common literary phrase "deus ex machina." Aside from a villain in The Matrix, deus ex machina refers to when a fictional story suddenly drops in a convenient godlike solution to a plot problem - the final moments of War of the Worlds, for example. The phrase has its roots in Greek theater, where actors playing Gods would be lowered onto stage using a crane - the God from the machine. That image feels apt for the The Legend of Vox Machina's D&D origins, where players puppeteer characters in a make-believe world who, more often than not, go on to save the realm heroically.

But I have three issues with this book. The first issue I have with this book is if you don't know who any of these people are or what Dungeons & Dragons is, I'm not entirely sure you'll enjoy this much. If you enjoy fantasy but don't follow Critical Role's story you might still enjoy your stay in Tal'Dorei, you may just find some of the niche references going over your head (I know I probably had many of those).

There are also a few groups of people/adversaries that would probably oppose them when the time comes.
